  1. I bought this lens because I needed a high-quality mid-zoom for weddings and portraits and didn’t want to spend a fortune on the Nikon version. I ended up never using it because all my other Nikon-brand lenses blew this Sigma away as far as quality. I have since dumped this lens and gone with all Nikon primes. You truly do get what you pay for and Nikon simply produces better glass.

  2. I bought this lens to pare with a new Pentax K7 and I have been playing with it for two weeks now. I notice right away excessive blurriness in my photos. The blurriness got worse at slower shutter speeds. I soon discovered that it is a problem with the Shake reduction feature in the Pentax. I contacted Pentax and Sigma. Pentax claims it is a problem with the Lens. Sigma told me they are aware of the problem and they are looking into it. All that aside and with the Shake reduction feature turned off I am actually quite impressed with the lens. I am no expert at testing lenses, but I would agree with praise other photographers give this one. It is heavy and fat, but it does feel good in my hands and the zoom and focus controls are easy to use even with big gloves on. If Sigma can not fix the problem with the SD feature I will be very disappointed and will never buy a sigma lens again, but I will give them three weeks and see.

  3. I hope this lens will be good, but my first copy I ordered from Amazon had an unbelievable front-focus problem. Honestly, in all lenses I ever tested I have never seen it to this extreme. It exceeds the DOF at f2.8 thus your focus point isn’t even remotely in focus.

Again, I am sure (hope) that this is a good lens, but quality control especially at this price point should be better.

  4. I probably just got a bad copy, but boy was it bad. Terrible wide open and not all that sharp stopped down. I was comparing it against some Nikon glass and it just wasn’t looking good. I sent it back to Amazon the next day. The quality seemed nice, but I also didn’t like the 82mm filter thread. I have a ton of 77mm filters, so this was going to be a pain. I’ve been told by others that their copy was razor sharp, so maybe I just got unlucky. I think with Sigma it’s just kind of a crap shoot.

  5. My first suggestion is save your money for a Canon L glass. Do not waste yourtime nor money on the Sigma. I gave it a try and it failed horribly. I took the lens on an test shoot and tested all aperture settings/shutter speed combinations. On all of my photos there was a severe front focus issue. (if you could find a spot in the photo that wasn’t so soft it was considered out of focus. The bokeh was like jagged broken glass. at anything below f8 the lens was useless. Anything above that it looked like it was shot with a softening filter on the lens. I returned it to Amazon and promptly ordered the Canon version. Buyer beware of this serious defecient lens.
