Kodak EasyShare HDTV Dock
This HDTV dock is a piece of junk. I purchased it to view my professional photography in high definition on a high definition TV. It supports secure digital high definition (SDHD) cards and has a USB slot. I’m not using it to dock a Kodak camera. My biggest issue with this unit is that it doesn’t support standard Windows filenames. If your filename is more than 8 letters long, it renames it to an old DOS filename with 8 letters using a ~ for part of the filename. If you use your computer to edit your camera files and rename them to anything longer than 8 letters, you’ll have this problem. The dock has no way to organize your slideshow…it just shows pics in alphabetical order using the new 8 letter names. Kodak support acknowledged this and wasn’t helpful at all. This is version 1 of this unit. Several firmware updates are already on Kodak’s website. None address this issue. Other smaller concerns with this unit include: You can’t power it off during a slideshow. You need to stop the slideshow first. The USB slot on the side of the unit is mounted upside down. It only supports component cables, not HDMI. I’ve read where it doesn’t support multimedia slide shows, but I haven’t tried that. This unit also crops a 16:9 image. I’ve tried it on several TV’s and the amount cropped seems to vary depending on the overscan of the TV. This is more of a TV issue than a dock issue. Also, this unit only recognizes BASELINE jpg…not progressive. One positive note: The speed reading the SDHC card, whether via the SDHC slot or the USB slot was reasonably quick. Much faster than the built in card reader on a friend’s Panasonic Plasma TV. One final caution. If you decide to try this unit, check on the return policy where you buy it. The online retailer I bought from would only replace it with another same unit.Kodak EasyShare HDTV Dock

Ok, this is an incomplete review because I haven’t been able to get the HDTV dock to work. When I put the camera in the dock no menu appeared on the camera and nothing appeared on the tv screen. Kodak tech suggested the dock was bad, so I returned it to Amazon for a replacement. (Amazon was fantastic, btw, and shipped a new one immediately). The second dock does the same thing. Before you think it may be a problem with the inputs of my tv, I should tell you I’m very familiar with these hookups and know that was not the problem. I even tried using the inputs I currently use for my Satellite input and still nothing happened. This time, I’m returning it directly to Kodak. If I get this resolved I’ll post a new review. I’d be very interested to read more reviews to see if I’m alone on this one. UPDATE!!!! My problem has been solved. What manual doesn’t tell you (nor does tech support for that matter) is that the dock’s default output is 720p. I have a 1080i. I had to take the dock to my brother’s TV, access the menu screen and change the output to 1080i. When I got home, voila! The change to 1080i was maintained in the dock, and now I can use it on my TV.

This dock requires HDTV, at minimum 720P resolution. It does not work on regular TV.
Like all other Kodak docks, it requires the custom camera insert included with your camera. If you have more than one dock, contact Kodak about getting extras. Using the dock without the adapter plate can cause damage to your camera, the dock, or both.
It does not connect to a PC. You need a different dock, printer dock, or a memory card reader for that.
Check camera compatibility before use.
It is not compatible with CX, DX, or and most LS, model cameras at all.
Some supported cameras DO NOT output in HD quality for picture or video.
It will not play video at all from many models of camera, even when you use the memory card directly in the dock.
The product strikes me as something Kodak stopped in the middle of development. It will not save many users from needing multiple memory cards or a laptop while traveling. The fact it only works with an HDTV makes it fairly useless for travel anyway unless you manage to find a hotel that has the required TV and allows you to mess with it.

Item is totaly worthless if you plan on using anything larger than a 2gb card. After updating the firmware, I was able to read a 4gb card 1 time before it would not work again. Will not recognize my camera if I have a 4gb card in it. Garbage!

only usefull for viewing pics. when i tried to see video…picture was full of some green spots all over screen. i tried taking video with diferent settings but still same. it looks good on camera and PC only problem when viewing HD video on TV. Contacted customer service of Kodak and send bunch of emails an received bunch of stupid answers like check is it turned on or luged in and so on…. so i just quit of trying. it is not of any use to me anymore….
